9pm: Tanner Wareham
Tanner Wareham is a singer/songwriter from Durban, South Africa who specialises in using loops and multiple instruments to create a unique live, one-man experience. Tanner has opened for some of SA’s biggest artists, and his first two singles charted on local and national radio. His music is feel-good, upbeat, acoustic based pop and dance brought to life with various instruments and grooves.
8pm: Brian Bedingfield
That once and future Lentil Eater, Brian Bedingfield, teams up with renowned songstress, Grace Botha, for a programme of music for the soul. Expect everything from Country Gospel to Soul, plus some old favourites from Carole King and James Taylor. Oh, and a little humour thrown in for good measure. All arranged for one guitar and two voices. They aim to send you home a little cheerier than when you came, with a song in your heart.
7pm: Jimi Ganesh & the Truth
Jimi Ganesh and the Truth is the proudly African music collaboration of tabla player, Nishalin Pillay, and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, Vaneshran Arumugam. Nish has made a name for himself as the adaptive ‘session’ percussionist and tabla ambassador and has shared the stage, as a support act, with Dan Patlansky; Arno Carstens and even with three-time Grammy Award winner Ben Harper. Vaneshran’s voice comes out of a lauded career as a master performer and storyteller, having played parts such as Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company, and more recently featuring in Africa’s 1st Netflix production, Queen Sono – for him, the guitars, flutes, harmonicas and jaw-harp etc. are also acting tools, means of collaborating to tell the story. Collaboration is the approach that Jimi Ganesh and the Truth takes, with eclectic influences from old and new traditions. A Jimi Ganesh set is a journey across the world through theatrical soundscapes, powerful chanting and spoken word, original compositions and unusual covers and arrangements, all with a sense of mystique and mischief and a strong dose of social justice – that’s the Truth in their name – knitted into their mercurial sound which has a broad appeal.
