9pm Rowan Stuart Music
Durban singer-songwriter-guitarist Rowan Stuart will return to Hilton this month for a performance at Music In The Hills (MiTH) on Wednesday the 27th of March. Following a successful 2018, and the recent release of his latest single ‘Fire, Water’, Rowan looks forward to bringing his signature Alternative Pop sound to the people of Hilton.
Rowan’s music was motivated by a search for something deeper and more soulful within the landscape of modern pop music. He possesses a pure and effortless voice that recalls Thom York and Paul Simon, and a tastefully virtuosic command of the electric and acoustic guitar, reminiscent of John Mayer and Eric Johnson. Rowan believes his greatest strength is his imagination, and has found that music is his favourite medium by which to share the inner worlds of his mind with others.
His songs are filled with stories of people and places just beyond the edge of reality, his lyrical themes often speaking of a deep need to escape from the complex and harsh modern world, to somewhere more primal and simple. It is this sense of escape and sanctuary that Rowan hopes to create for his listeners through his music.
The Durbanite has multiple South African tours under his belt, and has previously collaborated with artists such as Tresor, Just Jinjer and Gangs Of Ballet, and opened for many of South Africa’s top pop music acts.

8pm Joshua Leon Strydom
Having played with bands like “Now A Daze” from here in Pietermaritzburg, and having collaborated with Kaiti Faul and others, Josh Strydom’s acoustic guitar and vocals are finally coming to MiTH as a solo act. He will play some originals and some unique covers of songs he has always loved from the alternative rock 90s.
7pm Evan Oosthuizen
Evan’s acoustic style has been entertaining audiences for over four years. He plays classic oldies, a few original songs, and has become one of the Midlands’ best-known itinerant musicians and gig promoters, doing fantastic work to help build the local live music scene. MiTH hails you, Evan! When he isn’t working full time or gigging, he is listening to most music genres to feed his craving for new influences. Sit back or feel free to stand up and dance.
ABOUT MiTH: MiTH is located at The Knoll Historic Guest Farm, Knoll Drive, Hilton. Doors open at 6 pm and the music will kick off at 7 pm. Entrance is R40 at the door.
MiTH is a semi-open mic music club. An opportunity for musicians to share the joy of their music with a friendly audience which includes fellow musicians – who have all “been there” too. (Non-musicians welcome too!) Whether you’re a newbie looking for your first opportunity to perform publicly, or a more experienced / mature musician simply looking for people who are as passionate about music as you are – come along and join us!
Bring your own booze. Food and soft drinks are available for sale. Musicians who want to play at MiTH, please contact mithbookings@gmail.com.
DIRECTIONS TO MiTH: Take the N3 to Hilton, take the Hilton turnoff and go South into the Village (away from Hilton College).
