9pm: Heather Waters
Road-tripping is something of a lifestyle for touring folk-rock artist Heather Waters. Since the beginning of her career, she has not stood still – Waters has performed her folk-rock guitar tunes in villages, towns, and cities from Cape Town to Corsica!
For more than a decade, Heather Waters has been touring, writing, and creating a definite style and sound for her work. Her songs and performances burn with energy! Alone, or with a band, Waters’ expressive guitar rhythms, honest lyrics, and passionate energy draw you into her performances.
8pm: Matt Vend
South African born singer-songwriter, journalist, traveller, and nomad Matt “Beard” Vend has been playing music in bands since 1999, from the “tender” age of 14. His projects include the long-running punk band Sibling Rivalry, which managed to gain a loyal and cult-like following throughout South Africa and even parts of Thailand, and the short-lived, but extremely well-received Tubby Wilsons, which delved into both Matt, and fellow writer and musician, Yusuf Laher and The Nader’s affection for nostalgic pop and punk music. He was also involved in Durban’s first folk-inspired punk/rock ‘n roll band Car Boot Vendors.
Although recording is a big part of this musician’s repertoire, live is where he shines. With hundreds of shows across South Africa and Thailand under his belt, appearing on every stage imaginable, from street corners and dingy bars to major festivals and even a few shows at MiTH, Matt is sure to create an impression on the MiTH stage yet again!
7pm: Herbart’s Symphonic Brass
Herbart´s Symphonic Brass is a spectacular high school brass band from Herbartgymnasium in Oldenburg, Germany. Its members will be visiting Wartburg Kirchdorf School in February 2023, and once again making a stop at MiTH. Their typical sound of saxophones, trumpets and trombones is blended with the light sounds of flutes and clarinets, and completed with a groovy rhythm section. Mostly instrumental, they will add vocals for their trip to Africa and will practice and perform together with the WKS German group in this intercultural exchange project. The musical journey has in the past taken us from classics of film music like “The Best of James Bond“ to never-forgotten hits like Michael Jackson´s “Thriller”, or more recent ones like “Happy“ by Pharrell Williams – all skilfully arranged for this unique musical project. We’re looking forward to this year’s selection. The WKS German Choir consists of talented young singers who are learning German and collaborating with the band.
