9pm: HaleMary Band

HaleMary Band is a three-piece cover band born in Durban. The band first came together in early 2017. HaleMary Band plays an array of classic songs from 60’s and 70’s rock n’ roll through the decades, right up to the current music scene. HaleMary Band covers many genres from rock to pop, folk, soul, blues, and dance. Front man, Mitch Barnett, started off playing from a very young age after finding an old guitar under his uncle’s house. He then put his vocals to the guitar and realised he had found his passion. He then went on to play at local bars and other venues, and fell into many different bands to finally find his roots: HaleMary Band. Mitch has a smooth, deep, buttery vocal that is very easy on the ears and keeps the crowd wanting more.

8pm: Ma’frika Jazz Band

Art is life and unites us. Ma’frika Band uses art as a means for unity and social change in building an inclusive society. Ma’frika Jazz Band are a South African Afro-jazz fusion band that formed in UMgungundlovu District as a project in 2016. The band members have different backgrounds, including township and rural. The band’s musical style blends elements of blues and jazz with traditional South African music, such as kwela and African folk music, with features of afro pop. They are best known for their performance at the 2019 Pietermaritzburg Jazz Festival with South African artists, which received worldwide recognition.

Band members include Thami “Mthamiz” Mayeni as vocal pianist, Bheki Khumalo on bass, Lucky Buthelezi ‘Mzayoni’ on vocals and percussion, and DONGoodnesss Ayanda Mtshali on trumpet.

7pm: Saints II Men, and Lithium (St Charles College Bands)

Saints II Men, also known as the St Charles College Grade 11 band, led by Heather Skorpen, is a contemporary cover band. The band plays a varied discography, including the likes of Arctic Monkeys, OneRepublic, The Beatles, and original songs. Saints II Men consists of Matthew Urquhart on vocals and electric guitar, Luke Hubble on acoustic guitar, Sanda Mdledle on bass guitar, Nikhil Darson on electric guitar, Josh De Wet on keyboard, and Aryan Govender on drums. This is the band’s fourth year playing together.

The St Charles College Matric band is a group of boys who, through their musical adventures through high school, have wound up together ready to perform! Otherwise known as Lithium, this band explores rock classics from the 80’s, influenced by bands such as The Clash, and bringing you remixes of songs like 7 Nation Army, as well as some pop from the last decade. This is the first time Lithium is performing at MiTH and they are ready to bring their crazy, fun energy, and put on an epic show.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: MiTH takes place every second Wednesday at The Knoll Historic Guest Farm, Knoll Drive, Hilton. Doors open at 6pm and the music will kick off at 7pm. Entrance is R50 at the door. Bring your own booze. Food and soft drinks are available for sale.

DIRECTIONS TO MiTH: Take the N3 to Hilton, take the Hilton turnoff and go South into the Village (away from Hilton College). Travel 5,2km along Hilton Avenue (past two sets of traffic lights and Crossways Pub) and keep going straight as Hilton Avenue turns into Dennis Shepstone Drive. At the 5,2km mark, Knoll Drive will be on your right – the entrance to MiTH is the *second* entrance on your left into The Knoll Historic Guest Farm.
