9pm: Cherry Vynil
This Cape Town based Indie Rock band started out in June 2008, premiering onstage at the V&A Waterfront shortly following their establishment. Their first album, Busking Cape Town, launched in 2015. Cherry Vynil performs regularly at many hotspots: Mojo Market in Sea Point, Jack Black Breweries, Kapstadt Brauhaus, Aces & Spades, Jackson Hall at Grand West Casino and Snowflake in Potchefstroom. The band has shared the stage with South Africa’s much-loved bands Freshly Ground and Prime Circle, and features Vickus Horne on lead vocals, acoustic guitar and ukulele, Nicholas Forbes on lead guitar and backing vocals, Christo JJ Loots on bass guitar and Jason Soloman on drums.
8pm: Nish Pillay
Nish Pillay is a highly experienced percussionist, trained in South Africa and under a master in Bangalore, India. He specialises in the ancient Indian drum – the Tabla but plays a variety of drums from around the world. He has collaborated with many well-known South African artists including Robin Auld, Dave Starke; The Jack Mantis Band and many more. Nish has shared the stage, as a supporting act, with American Grammy Award winner Ben Harper; Dan Patlansky, The Parlotones, Gangs of Ballet, Arno Carstens, Soweto Gospel Choir, Desmond and the Tutus and many more top acts, and has also extensively toured South Africa several times over the last 6 years, with various musical, theatre and social justice themed projects. Nish brings a real and honest interpretation and journey through sound – which is the reality he lives in. The media describes his stage presence as ‘legendary’ and this artist is truly someone that has found his niche!
For the first time in his music career Nish is exploring the idea of a solo show – 2022 will be the year of vulnerably testing this out!
7pm: James Shead
Born and bred in the KZN Midlands, James has been a keen musician since his early teens. Raised on folk, blues and rock ‘n roll, James has developed a unique ability to blend these genres into medleys of classic and original tracks, making for soulful listening which resonates deeply within us all. James’ instrument of choice has always been the guitar and he deftly moves between electric to 12-string and everything in between depending on what the track requires. At present he is working on songs that meant different things at different times, mashing originals with covers.
